 Alloy Chain Slings:
1. Do not exceed rated capacity.
2. Use only alloy steel chain grade 80 or better.
3. Consult manufacturer for temperature allowances.
4. Do not shorten or lengthen by twisting, using
knots, bolts or other unapproved methods.
5. Never use repair links that are not approved.
6. Never hammer or heat a chain to straighten
damaged links.
7. Use softeners (pads) when wrapping slings around
sharp edges.
8. Avoid shockloads. Never tip load chain hooks.
9. Slings shall be permanently marked with
manufacturer;s name,serial number, rated
capacity, length and chain size.
10. Do not heat treat or anneal alloy steel chain slings.
11. Place sling(s) in center bowl of hook.
12. Calculate additional tension due to angles
13. Don't place small sling eye on large hook.
14. Personnel stand clear of load.
15. Do not pull slings from under load.
16. Slings should be stored in areas where they will
not be subjected to mechanical damage, corrosive
action, moisture and heat.
Remove if:
• Evidence of heat damage
• Nicks
• Dents
• Gouges
• Bent or twisted links
• Chain links & attachments do not hinge freely with adjacent links
• Corrosion
• Severe Abraion
• Cracks
• Elongation/stretch, mazimum 5 percent
• Wear, as per manufacturer
• Identification tag missing or illegible
• Damaged end attachments
• Hooks with 15 percent throat opening or 10° twist
• Chain grade is not 80 or better
